Disastrous Finish...who Liked the Coonskin hats?

Good morning Tiger Nation Friends and Facebook Friends...

It is time to finish up The Lady's Roar football edition for the season. I have read the interviews, I have read the posts, and now I will try to help all my friends get over this difficult loss to West Virginia. I've got to admit, we were outplayed, out scored, out hustled, and out coached in most facets of the game after the fumble recovery return for a TD by WVU in the second quarter. My Tigers could not recover and that was the turning point of the game. We got sloppy and got beat in the trenches on both sides of the ball. WVU had numerous breaks in the game and once again we handed the ballot them on costly turnovers too many times to keep up with.

I am not making excuses, the way I see it we got whipped, plain and simple.

I have seen the posts this morning from current and former Clemson players and I truly believe they are hurting and disappointed. In the face of adversity these players have stepped up and owned their responsibilities and come away with a chance for character building and positive reflection. With all that said, I am talking about 17-19 year olds apologizing to me for their lack of performance in a bowl game. Makes me want to, as a Mother, wrap each one of them under my "wings" and never let them go.

I glanced around the stadium last night after the score got lopsided and witnessed ugliness at its best. Intoxicated teenagers and young adults on both sides, slurring, staggering, and making idiots out of themselves. I thought, where do they get this behavior from? I figured that one out in a hurry. Sad stuff, my friends! Makes the Mom in me want to cry.

I know I'm sheltered and not "hip", but I am me!

Now to the WVU fans, congratulations on a hard fought win. All the screams and rude gestures I witnessed will be erased in my mind very soon. But the coonskin hats, I can't quite get passed that. Just how do you create such a thing? Is that considered fashion apparel in the John Denver mountain home?

Sorry, I could not resist. Thanks everyone for the nice comments about my blog. I will be turning my efforts to life, grandson, and Tiger Baseball very soon...

Orange Bowl Parade and other excursions!!

The Orange Bowl parade was a huge success on Monday afternoon in Coral Gables. The parade made its way down Ponce de Leon and Miracle Mile in the downtown area. Many wonderful floats filled with beautiful queen. Also one of the best horse displays I have ever seen. Beautiful paints, Arabians, all cleaned and dressed for their parade display. I saw many unique ways of braiding and dressage, can you tell I grew up a cowgirl? Lol

The parade also featured mini, mini coopers. The cutest cars driven my clowns I have ever seen. I sat on the street curb and those cars' windows were no taller than my height. Soooo adorable and entertaining.

Of course, Tiger Band led all the marching band entries. I was so proud to spell out Clemson in downtown Coral Gables, just to hear other Tiger Fans around me joining in. Bob and I even got a little time on the ACC Network camera, for playback on the game tonight, so look for that!

We have met up with 2 West Virginia fans, one on the interstate coming here, and one last night at The Cheesecake Factory where we had dinner. The one on the highway flipped us off and the other one screamed out how badly they were going to beat us. What's up with that? Whatever happened to "Howdy Neighbor?". Gheesh! Seems like I remember a certain Major Harris being demoted to Private when Clemson played WVU last. How about that? Lol..

Seriously however, game day is here. Clemson University gets the full stage, a chance to shine and showcase our talent and traditions. Danny Ford gets inducted into the Orange Bowl Hall of Fame! Bob gets to recall that special moment 30 years ago, when the impossible happened...

Come on Tigers, play hard, play smart, and when you look across the field at your WVU foes, shake their hands and then Kick their buttes, "1981 Style" ....

Go Tigers!

2012 Orange Bowl...making our way to Miami

I knew I had to be quick on my feet this morning when Bob instructed me last night to wear my clothes to bed. Lol. A 4 am wake up call is not my idea of first day of vacation, but hey, when I woke up for breakfast in Florida, I quickly appreciated the "genes" my husband inherited from his Dad. I even woke up just long enough before getting into the car, to give a shout out to my sweet Father-in-law in heaven saying, "Grandaddy, I know we are making you proud this morning."

We are heading south on 95, just Bob and me, making our way down to South Beach, where we will meet up with the rest of our Paulling Entourage a little later today. Roll call for this trip consists of Lisa, Freddie, Tori, ( who I affectionately call Vicki), JT, and Mike. I guess Mike made the leave time, he usually runs a little tardy, I hear. I will also take a double glance in the car because you never know when my brother Gene will decide he'd like to go. "Gene, are you rolling?" hahahahaha

Weather forecast says warm today, but cooling off the rest of our stay. I immediately tried to speculate who that would give an edge to in the game, Clemson or West Virginia. I suddenly realized, we are not talking flurries or anything, so I gave that thought process a rest.

I can't help though, thinking back 30 years ago, when Clemson's 1981 team prepared for the Orange Bowl against Nebraska. I was making my way about this time on a plane out of Greenville, with lots and lots of Tiger fans on board. I struck up a conversation with my seat mates, as they admired my oversized " My husband is #6" button that I wore to every game that year. Bob was having a nice year on the football field and the baseball diamond, so they asked lots of questions and I answered them with lots of lies. Caught you didn't, I? Jk, we had a nice open, honest conversation and became fast friends during the few hours it took to land in Miami's Airport.

Upon arrival, I knew Bob would be there to greet me, but what I didn't realize is that he was with 2 police officers. As soon as I exited the ramp, both officers escorted me away from the plane very brusquely with no explanation for several minutes until I saw my hero's ruddy sunburned complexion smiling at me from afar. Bob had befriended those officers and they volunteered to come pick me up, because "Miami Airport is not the place for a young lady to be on her own".

Soooo, you know those friends I met on the plane? Never once heard from them again, I bet they thought I was a convict on the loose with that greeting I recieved on the Tarmac. I can just see the headlines for present day time, Clemson Player's Wife Imposter Arrested in Miami.
However, in Bob's defense, we heard lots of crimes being committed on the police scanner on our ride back to the Team Hotel, so I was grateful to everyone for looking out for my safety.

So, that my friends was my first of many "tales" that I have about Miami. By the way, a 4 am wake up call doesn't sound too bad now, does it?

To be continued....Coming next, Orange Bowl Parade details....
