Kudos to Lexington School District 1

This past Tuesday evening was a special one. Bob and I joined Coach Danny Ford and some other 1981 teammates at the Embassy Suites in Columbia for a fundraiser for The Lexington One School Disrrict Foundation.

There was a social time to meet Coach Ford and have your photograph made with him. We saw a lot of Lexington friends and it was so good to catch up with them. During the social hour, a friend of ours had on display his scrapbooks containing articles, pictures, clippings, programs, and other interesting items from the National Championship run in 1981. These books were so well done, very interesting, and so appreciated by everyone. It was fun taking a trek down memory lane.

The banquet also featured a silent and live auction featuring some really nice items, including a tricked out golf cart. Dinner was fantastic as the highlights from the 1981 season played on the big screens. I was so excited to see Bob in the games and had forgotten how good of a placekicker he was. His field goals and extra points were so consistent, I think he may still have the percentage record for field goals and extra points.

Coach Ford made his speech that was warmly received by everyone it attendance. He invited his players onto the stage with him and they each had an opportunity to speak.

Bob spoke on our daughter, Brittany's graduating from Lexington High School in 2004. He spoke about her athletic career there, winning two state championships in softball and also the extraordinary education she received.

You see, District One has been rated the best school district in the state for many, many years. With the cutbacks in funding for education, my hat is off to them to be proactive and raise the extra funding they need with this event. It was a smashing success.

Each student at Lexington High School received an iPad yesterday, and textbooks will soon be a thing of the past.

I am happy my daughter is a graduate of LHS, and look forward to my grandson attending District One in a few years. I even have a name of his kindergarten teacher...

Congrats to the Foundation on a job well done!!
