As I wrote so many weeks ago, I really felt as if our 1981 team was handing off the baton to our 2011 team. Well, that has happened not entirely the way I had dreamed but in a way that still brings me chills.
It's 30 years later, the Orange Bowl officials were greatly anticipating a return of Clemson Nation to revitalize the Orange Bowl festivities and the game. On Saturday, December 3, Clemson put together the near perfect game for the second time against a 3rd ranked Virginia Tech team in beautiful Bank of America stadium in Charlotte, NC. The Paulling Entorage that seems to be growing every game, made our way to Charlotte to take in the pre game ACCCG festivities. One of the highlights of the night for our guys was to be able to stand a few feet from the Rally Cats and Clemson Cheerleaders as they performed right outside of the stadium. ;-). My highlight was the concert by Dierst Bentley where my niece Lisa and I got on our dancing shoes to show our stuff and embarrass the kids. Lol. All in all, it was a fun night that got better as the game started.
My brother Gene, had some connections with the pre game tailgate, so we got to rub elbows with some very nice people from the Charlotte area and some Chevron executives. It makes me want to use Chevron lubricants in my cars from now on...how about you? (You are welcome, Gene.)
Right before kickoff we made our way behind the glass up above club level and sat down at a table where we had the most fantastic view of the field and Clemson sideline. We all decided we would stay here and enjoy the game, in suite style, a great decision by the majority. Thank you.....Chevron!
I won't bore you again with the details from the game, but can I just say, the Tigers showed up, did their thing, and gave us a 4th quarter to go ahead and start the party! I immediately tried to make my way onto the field, which is impossible, to unload my frustration to any player that would hear me, about the nonexistence of passion the prior 2 weeks. I had my words scripted out, knew the exact standing position I would take (right hand to the face mask, pulling downward to make perfect eye contact) and the script would have been something like, "do you have any idea what you put me through the last 2 weeks...."$&@&$&@.
But at that very moment, I looked around at the confetti, the high rise building in the background radiating orange, my nephew ,Freddie, hanging over the railing by his "feet" to touch the trophy that was hoisted above the head of Dwayne Allen and I had an epiphany....it didn't matter about the last 2 weeks....ahhhhh, relief. That knot in my stomach finally disappeared and all was well in myself and Tiger Nation. We are the Atlantic Coast Conference Champions, this team did it, heck we all did it! The baton passing was genuine and authentic ! It's time to Celebrate, and celebrate we did, until 2:30 am that morning!
The ride back home with the Clemson family consisted of horn honking, high fives all around, and even a 1234...in cadence count! I sat quietly and gave God praise for keeping our teams safe and for blessing this team with the successful journey.
The Paulling Entorage's reservations are made for Miami. In the coming weeks join me on a ride back to 1981, the greatest football feat that has ever been accomplished for Clemson University. But also join me in traveling or watching from home the next chapter....to be continued!

It's time to pack...to play the Pack...
Wolf pack that is. This is one of my favorite venues for college football. NC State has a great stadium, great scoreboard with digital screen, and a blow you out of your seat sound system. My Tigers have played well there recently, hopefully we can get out of there with a W!!
The Shoaf family, who reside in Raleigh, are NC State graduates. They invite us up every couple of years to spend the weekend with them and enjoy all the festivities leading up to game time. I especially look forward to the tailgate before the game. This family does it right. They set up just about 50 yards from the stadium, pop their tents up, and put out a spread that Bobby Flay would love. All beverages come with your own Wolfpack coozies. There are Pack cake squares, Pack plates, napkins, and cups. They even serve Pack mints. The last time there I was even supplied with a Pack handheld battery powered fan!
We do reciprocate the offer when NC State plays at Clemson. Makes for a real fun time and a time to catch up with each other.
NC State is my second favorite team in the ACC, it's always been that way. But lately, the Shoafs have alot to do with that. NC State fans are classy and friendly and I really do love the Wolf howl! Lol.
Well, I need to get moving, it's time to get "packing"!
Go Tigers!

ACC Atlantic Division Champions
What an absolute divine day in Tiger Town. Perfect football weather, 50ish degrees with a slight wind and radiant sunshine. The stage was set, a good Wake Forest team visiting The Valley with a noon kickoff time. Last home game of the season, Senior Day, playing in front of 80,000 Tiger Fans.
The Tigers do what it takes to win the game even though our defense looked overpowered until the 4th quarter when they stopped WF when it was an absolute must. Wake had a very accurate QB who gave us fits the entire game. His uniform was pristine and clean throughout the game which is a great indicator that we never touched him. Can we say BLITZ? I don't understand the play off the line of scrimmage, way too many holes for efficient running backs to run through. Way too much yardage given up on first down. I could go on and on...
Tajh started the game looking very rusty and inaccurate. He threw 2 interceptions, but in reality WF dropped at least 3 more. Very lucky here.
Andre Ellington looked healthy again and finished with 99 yards rushing. Sammy Watkins surpassed the 1000 reception yards mark, making him one of four players to ever accomplish that. Oh, did I mention he is a freshman? Sammy went out of the game in the 3rd quarter with a shoulder strain. So happy this is not serious.
With Sammy sidelined, Dwayne Allen, Nuk Hopkins, and Jaron Brown really stepped it up and made some very nice catches down the stretch.
With score tied at 28, our kicker missed a field goal wide left and gave the ball back to WF with 4 minutes to go in the game. On third down we finally got the QB dirty with a monstrous sack by Remmy Moore. Remember that name from the FSU game? Big sack that day too!
We get the ball back and drive down to inside the 30, call time out and set up for the winning field goal. At this point, Bob looks at me and says, "I wish I could kick this one." to which I replied, "Me too." He didn't however, have time to get changed so we had to go with the Catman. Bob says, " Dale, he's better from the right hash mark than the left." He was right, field goal was good, could have went 20 more yards, time expired, and Clemson is the Atlantic Division Champions. No beenie weenies for the players tomorrow, steak and lobster all around. Lol.
I am proud of this team, their fight, and their attitudes. I am happy for our coaches and our fans, we controlled our own destiny.
As for next week, Bob and I will travel to Raleigh to face the Pack of NC State. We have very nice friends who show us a great time there. They are the nicest people, true Wolfpack fans who love their team, but also graciously welcome us to the den. I look forward to this game every other year.
Congrats 2011 Clemson Tigers, y'all are special!!

WAkE up Tiger Fans!
For those of you in attendance this coming Saturday, we have a special request to be at Tiger Walk and also to be in our seats early for pre game warm ups. Dabo is calling on us to be loud and filled with excitement.
Let's just say I have been waiting for 2 weeks to get this bad taste out of my mouth because of our loss to you know who. I still can't say their name.
I am looking forward to the Wake Forest game and what a victory for the Tigers means to our season. We can lock up the Atlantic Division Championship and have our shot in the ACC Chamionship game against.......TBA.
Just got word the public tickets are sold out at Panthers Stadium, sounds like some Clemson folks are getting their 2 dollar bills stamped and ready to spend in Charlotte.
It's a great game coming up. Let's be loud and proud and get behind our Tigers and show Wake how loud The Valley can be!

Kudos to Lexington School District 1
This past Tuesday evening was a special one. Bob and I joined Coach Danny Ford and some other 1981 teammates at the Embassy Suites in Columbia for a fundraiser for The Lexington One School Disrrict Foundation.
There was a social time to meet Coach Ford and have your photograph made with him. We saw a lot of Lexington friends and it was so good to catch up with them. During the social hour, a friend of ours had on display his scrapbooks containing articles, pictures, clippings, programs, and other interesting items from the National Championship run in 1981. These books were so well done, very interesting, and so appreciated by everyone. It was fun taking a trek down memory lane.
The banquet also featured a silent and live auction featuring some really nice items, including a tricked out golf cart. Dinner was fantastic as the highlights from the 1981 season played on the big screens. I was so excited to see Bob in the games and had forgotten how good of a placekicker he was. His field goals and extra points were so consistent, I think he may still have the percentage record for field goals and extra points.
Coach Ford made his speech that was warmly received by everyone it attendance. He invited his players onto the stage with him and they each had an opportunity to speak.
Bob spoke on our daughter, Brittany's graduating from Lexington High School in 2004. He spoke about her athletic career there, winning two state championships in softball and also the extraordinary education she received.
You see, District One has been rated the best school district in the state for many, many years. With the cutbacks in funding for education, my hat is off to them to be proactive and raise the extra funding they need with this event. It was a smashing success.
Each student at Lexington High School received an iPad yesterday, and textbooks will soon be a thing of the past.
I am happy my daughter is a graduate of LHS, and look forward to my grandson attending District One in a few years. I even have a name of his kindergarten teacher...
Congrats to the Foundation on a job well done!!

8-1...Tigers are done---?
GT, reeling from 2 back to back losses. Miami and UVA both figured out how to stop their triple option offense. No problem for a talented team like Clemson, right?
WRONG! My Tigers played right into the hands of the Jackets from the first kick off that sailed out of bounds, to the 4 turnovers, 2 fumbles and 2 interceptions, and the low left missed field goal...MOMENTUM KILLER!
We could not have handed them a more perfect opportunity. So many 3 and outs, allowing Tech's defense to run, run ,run, not only the ball but the time off the clock. Our defense watched 1st down after 1st down and couldn't seem to make a stop when wen really needed one. That being said, we also has an excellent opportunity to take control of the game with 10 minutes left in the 4 th quarter by an amazing interception by our defensive back. We all know what happened one play later...Sammy stopped short and Tajh threw the fade...gave the dang ball right back to them.
Now comes the exciting, amazing part, you ready???
Tiger Fans, we play for our Division Championship next Saturday in the Valley against Wake Forest. We get 2 weeks, count them 2 weeks to heal, physically and mentally. We have extra time for our coaches to make adjustments and implement even more of the Chad Morris spread offense that has gotten us out of our seats in every game...
You see, I believe. Just look at all the post game interviews with our players, they hurt from that difficult loss, they know it's time to finish strong. We have 5 more games this season. I 100% expect us to bounce back and be a better team, our goals are still on the table and WE not FSU, not Miami control our destiny!
Feels good, doesn't it? Our future is bright....BRIGHT ORANGE that is!
Go Tigers!!

Here we go Tigers, here we go!
And go we must. Atlanta, Ga on a Saturday evening with the wine and cheese crowd. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Tech and their fans, but sitting next to one during a game can be quite trying. This certain lady sitting in front of me kept asking her husband who had the ball and to let her know when they scored. When they did she made sure she turned around and caught my eye. Lady, please. Go on back to your mansion at Buckhead and don't even try to compete with me on football knowledge! Lol.
That being said, this is a huge game for Tiger Nation. GT has that aggravating offense that once they get the ball they can hold onto it for hours. Fortunately for us UVA and Miami shut that offense down, and I am sure the Tiger D has taken note. Thank goodness Josh Nesbitt is no longer quarterback, I have seen enough of him to last a lifetime.
My Tigers will have to play fast and very hard. No matter what has happened thus far in the season is out the window, this is Clemson/ GT and that means a close game.
Garage Valley will be in full swing 8:00 pm on Saturday. Full size projector playing the game gives you the best seat in the house. Clemson blankets and snuggies passed around, turkey in the deep fryer with all the trimmings. Another victory is what we hope for.
Hey, I might even pass out the wine and cheese...

1981 Clemson Reunion
It was a magical weekend. Seeing old friends, touring the weight room and West Zone area. Hearing a speech from 2 great coaches, Dabo Swinney and Danny Ford. Loving on Jeff Davis, Perry Tuttle, Cliff Austin, Ray Brown, Dale Hatcher, and many, many others. Watching Bob act out with his former teammates, talking about the good ole days!
It's been 30 years, but these guys look like they could suit up today. I think we have even more ordained preachers than 5 years ago. Coach Ford takes credit for this, saying he must have been a horrible coach. Lol.
I had a nice conversation with Debra Ford, Coach's wife. She is still as beautiful as she was in the 80's. Very graceful and sweet.
We introduced Jake to Coach Ford and got a great picture of them together. Coach said all these players' grandchildren made him feel really old.
At halftime during the game today, the 1981 team was introduced as they made their way down the hill. I met Bob right before and handed Jake off for his first "hill experience". As they made their way down, there was an instant when things were brighter and in slow motion. I could not believe the way God has blessed us with Such a precious grandson. As I picked Bob and Jake out of the crowd, I saw that Jake had fallen asleep in Bob's arms. That was the sweetest thing I have ever seen. Safe and secure with his Coach even with 80,000 people cheering. # priceless
The 81 team made a tunnel for the 2011 Tigers to run through on their way back in the field after the half. This really hit me. The 1981 National Champions have now handed off the baton to this team who are so close to greatness!
It is a great day to be a Tiger and a wife of a former National Champion. Clemson is a special place my friends and even more so as the years tick by.
Go Tigers!

7-0... Ok, this is getting interesting....Tiger Football from a lady's point of view
Let me be clear, I have been to Byrd Stadium in Maryland. I have witnessed being their homecoming opponent. I have even witnessed the breakout of new uniforms against us, even though these new Maryland ones, remind me a lot of a crash dummy. I have even watched them not decide on a starting QB until game time. I have seen Ralph Freigen exploit our weaknesses on defense, but wait Fridge is gone right? Could have fooled me
EXCEPT...
My Tigers never ever gave up. The offense made a decision that if we needed 70 points to win, we would score 70 points to win. Direct quote from our big time Tight End, Dwayne Allen. "We never panicked, we knew we were going to win this game!"
So what's the difference this year? A powerful, complicated offense that can really score. A healthy Andre' Hopkins. Superman, Sammy Watkins. Tajh Boyd, who is the most friendly, likable young man out there, not to mention his talent. A healthy Andre' Ellington, a strong I'll run you over DJ Howard. A flashy Mike Bellamy, Bryant, Brown, I could go on and on. Clemson has the pieces of the puzzle we have been missing in the years gone by.
But most of all, WE BELIEVE! This season is slowly paralleling those Tigers of 1981 that too believed. You see, I rode the bus after that National Championship Victory with the team and coaches. I laughed as streams of champagne soaked me from head to toe. I tried to hide when Coach Lawson asked me what I was doing on there, and my National Champion Clemson Tiger husband said, " she's with me!".
So, 2011 Tigers, let me say, you are so close to accomplishing the dream. Keep up the hard work on the practice fields, in the games, and in the weight room. Keep up with your studies and Go praise God at FCA.
Clemson fans rock the valley. Get a little wild, paint those paws on both cheeks or maybe all four, Lol.
Loud, loud, louder. This is our house, and our dream.
ONE TEAM, ONE DREAM, let's get it done...to be continued.

Calhoun County vs Williston Elko
It's Friday evening, practice has been difficult for this game, lots and lots of rain. The Saints made too many mistakes against this team to win the game, but they did make it interesting.
Williston Elko scored first off a great run and added on a two point conversion to lead the Saints going into halftime 8-0.
The Saints came back in the 3rd quarter and scored off a nice run by Kembre of 55 yards. Terrence found his wide receiver for the two point conversion, and the game was tied up 8-8.
That didn't last long as Williston Elko threw a 70 yard touchdown pass, with the 2 point conversion failing.
With time winding down, I checked the scoreboard knowing all we needed was a touchdown and an extra point to win. The Saintsndrove the ball down inside the 30 yard line. Unfortunately, we were not able to score and turned the ball over on downs.
A very ugly loss and one that hurt our players and coaches. I really believed we were the better team out there but too many turnovers and too many bad plays.
The Saints travel this week to Ridge Spring Monetta.

"It's Game Time...almost...in Garage Valley!
When the Rigers take on the Terrapins in Byrd Stadium Saturday evening, let me give you a preview of what transpires at my house.
Lisa, Freddie, and the kidsnwill be here early, ready with their part of the production, which this time includes cooking the stew.
My brother Gene will call and as if we are watching the game. (Where has he been since last week?) lol
I'll call my Dad and ask him to come over and he will check his social calendar and get back to me, usually accepting the invitation and making certain of the time. He will also make a funny comment about some other team he doesn't particularly care for and say thank you for inviting him and Ms. Mamie.
I will call Ricky and he will answer and give his regrets because it is deer season and "someone has to watch the business".
Bob will be out of town with former Clemson baseball teammates who will play 36 holes of golf a day and reminisce about the " good ole days"! They too, will be watching the football game and Bob will become their hero all over again, because he batted 400 and could kick field goals and PAT's for the football team.. Lol. When Bob returns from the weekend, he will recall how all the guys asked about me, andnthen hen will beg for extra pillows around him at night because his body hurts so badly. He never can quite figure out how 90 hikes ofmgolf can take it out of ya.
My friend Phyl will move in on Friday night and we will have a girls' weekend. Laughing, crying, sharing our faith, and solving all the world's problems. Hey, we might even take in the fair!
Rob, Charlotte, and the kids will come over in time to set up the projector and get the sound just right in the garage. The Tigers on the field become life-sized and we all wait patiently for the kids to run by the screen! Haha
Jose' and Michael come on over. Jose' will get into the kitchen and whip somerhing Italian up, no joke here, this is good stuff! Michael will congregate with the CC High boys that make their way over during pre game. Usually Terrence, DJ, and Kembre.
Soon after kickoff, I hope you hear the eruption from The Garage Valley Crowd, as Sammy Watkins or Nuk Hopkins make a great catch and run their way into the end
And later, the scraping of the lawn chairs on concrete as everyone is high fiving everyone else.
You see, the Garage Valley Crowd believes like our Tigers and Coaches do! One team, one dream, Go Tigers!

6 and 0, someone please pinch me....
I think I am stuck in the most fantastic dream!
What can I say about my undefeated Tigers? That we are running up more yardage than we ever have? That we have a freshman wide receiver that is on the short list for National Freshman of the Year? We have a QB that is beginning to get some Heisman hype? We have a Freshman Tailback that can break for a TD at any time he touches the ball? That we have another Freshman Tailback that refuses to be tackled? That we have a Christian passionate Coach that doesn't mind telling it like it is, and doesn't mind spreading the love?
On the defensive side of the ball, we have a defensive line that are big time playmakers? We have the Fabulous Freshman Linebackers that are beginning to show out?
We have one of the best punters in the nation? Even a flagrant running into the kicker penalty couldn't keep him off the field? We also have a placekicker that kicked 5 field goals in the game Saturday? Lastly, we have a kick off specialist that puts his head down and makes a bunch of special team tackles?
Winning against a pesky Boston College team on Saturday was a great feeling. When Tajh went down injured in the 3 rd quarter there was a gasp throughout the Valley. Praying vegan immediately. Sammy asked for prayer for his teammate on his facebook page. We prayed, we believed. God answered and the latest out of Tiger Town is Tajh will be at full speed
tomorrow at practice.
A miraculous season is what we are witnessing, one game at the time! Feels very reminiscent of that season 30 years ago when the unthinkable happened...
Oh,and the icing on the cake Saturday, was the game program, where there was an article on a certain two sport athlete that lived that dream first hand in 1981. Congrats
to Bob Paulling, #6, 1981 National Champion, but more importantly my hero and my husband!!
So, don't pinch me, I want to continue this awesome dream....did it once, can we repeat? Go Tigers!

CC High wins again...vs Fox Creek
Friday night, October 7 th, Saints stadium was the site for the showdown between undefeated Fox Creek High School and our Calhoun County Saints.
It was a fabulous night for football, the weather was perfect and the Homecoming crowd was huge.
The Saints scored on their opening drive and the extra point was good. Kembre ran the ball in for the first score from the 2 yard line.
Fox Creek answered back on nice plays from their QB, who is a commit to Clemson. I was really impressed by this young man. Very talented. Fox creek scored their second TD of the night, PAT was no good and their lead was 13-7.
The Saints scored again on a nice run by Richard Hall. The extra point was no good, and we are all tied up at 13.
With the clock winding down in the fourth quarter, Tay Brown went to work and ran the ball on several very nice gains. The Saints mademit down to the 3 yard line where our QB took a shot and had to sit out for a play. No problem, on 4 th down and goal, Tay Brown throws a jump pass to Kembre for the winning touchdown and then Tay kicks the extra point to seal the victory 20-13.
Fox Creek ended up in CC High territory, but the Saints held on fourth down to be able to take a knee to kill the clock.
Kembre also had 3 sacks on defense and 6 tackles.
What a nice step forward to winning the conference championship, even though we face Williston on Friday. I look forward to another hard fought game, hopefully with the Saints in the W!
In a conversation with Kembre after the game, I said, you sure did like hitting on our recruit for Clemson, to which he replied, "Of course I did!".
Gotta love him. He is playing so well!

My Niece Lisa...
I laid my Grandson Jake down for a nap today, and he obliged by napping for 3 hours. I was able to categorize all my coupons, clean Britt's kitchen, and fold her clothes. As I was busy running about I had a nice time of reflecting upon my family and especially my niece Lisa Axson.
Lisa and I always had this certain bond. I was only a teen when she was born. She was a beautiful baby and man did she have a set of lungs! I can remember the day we were playing in the "spinning" chair at my house and when I spun her around to face me, she shouted Day, Day, Day! Well, we were all certain she was saying Dale, so I take credit for her first words! Lol.
Along the years, Lisa and I have had many adventures. One that comes to mind is the time we were riding the gokart together and she decided to make a sharp left hand turn when I happened to be leaning right. Yep, got the scar on my knee today, from that adventure! I rolled right out and onto the ground.
I also remember the summers she would come to Clemson and spend some time with Bob and me. Bob would take her skiing, golfing, and motorcycle riding. Let's not forget the "sing along with Bob time" when he would whip out the guitar and play the few notes he knew. Had us in stitches!
Since those early years, Lisa grew up to be a wife to Freddie, and Mom to Tori (Vicki) and JT. She is also a very successful saleswoman for the company she owns with her family. She travels all over the state doing her thing! All of her customers love her.
My favorite memories of Lisa and her family present day, are when we are heading to Clemson for games, we either travel together or we can look behind us and there they are! Their love for Clemson is evident in their faithfulness to the team, bad times and good.
Bob and I would like to take some credit for their Clemson passion, dating back to the days Uncle Bob put on that #6 jersey and played his heart out. He gave it his all on the field and in practice, but would never hesitate to come home to us and have that singalong time!
Lisa, Freddie, Vicki, and JT: we love y'all and you are the best part of game day at Clemson! We look forward to many more years traveling together, and hey maybe we can make our second ACC championship game this December!

Tigers do the Hokie Pokie
I just love it when an opposing QB gives us bulletin board material prior to game time. Virginia Tech's QB ( thank God it's not Tyrod Taylor) talked to the media last week saying this game against Clemson would separate the men from the boys. He was right, but not in the way he expected!!
Four sacks, several hurries, and a relentless Branch and Willard had Big Mouth running for his life all night. How wonderful to see our D step it up and make a statement against a very good team.
My Tigers are for real.
Quoting from Sammy Watkins, we are on a Shock the World Tour. The media is taking note and Dabo can't hardly contain himself.
Holding VT to a field goal was phenomenal!
Can't wait for the trip up this weekend to welcome our heroes back to Death Valley!

Clemson / FSU recap
I am a believer! Clemson has turned the corner and we are becoming a really good team. The atmosphere at Death Valley on Saturday was remarkable! FSU was a very conditioned team with speed and quickness. The injury to their starting QB did not hurt them in the least! In fact, out of Tallahassee , they are saying the injured QB will have a hard time getting his job back.
My Tigers fought hard during the game, they never ever looked winded. We led the entire game and even with some big play scores by the Noles, we were able to finally sack the QB on 4th and 9 to seal the victory.
It was a special day, a special game, and a special time with family and friends.
Jake made his first trip to Death Valley and made my day when I looked over during the pregame festivities and he was clapping to Tiger Rag. All I could think about was Bob's Dad in heaven rejoicing that we are raising another Tiger! Lol.
Big plays by Tajh, Sammy, Nuk, and Andre' on offense kept drive after drive alive. As I've said earlier, you gotta love Sammy Watkins! A freshman that takes the game on his back and gives it his all every play!
We have a tough one coming up at Virginia Tech on Saturday. Night games in Hokie Nation can be brutal, but hey, we can do it!
We are getting together for a viewing party atvour house on Saturday.

CC High vs HKT...Monday night football
Friday's game at HKT was postponed due to ants on the field. This was a new one for me. I'm really glad however, I wouldn't want anyone to fall in a fire ant mound! Yikes!
So, on Monday night the Saints traveled once again to HKT for a 7pm kickoff. It was a sloppy field and a hard hitting kind of game. hKT has no love for Calhoun County and the jawing began early. The Saints went up 7-0 in the first quarter. HKT fought back and scored and the 2 point conversion was good. Everyone in the stands knew the tailback did not even reach the end zone, but hey, it was that kinda night.
HKT led 8-7 throughout the game until about 7 minutes left in the game. Our new quarterback had a nice run to put us up and we ended up scoring again, making the outcome 19-8.
Kembre had a tough night and sat out most of the game with a stinger in his left knee. However, he was able to return and make some nice plays on defense and offense.
We have a much needed bye week this Friday. Time for the Saints to heal up and get ready for Fox Creek next Friday!

My Bichon Toby, enjoy doggie heaven!
It was a week ago yesterday when the doorbell chimed and my neighbor gave me the news my dog was dead. I had just let him out to explore a bit before all the neighbors would be home from work. In hindsight I would have never opened that door letting my best friend out in harm's way, even when he grabbed his "baby" to go out with him. He always does this, will leave the stuffed toy right by the steps until he returns. That day the toy laid there as a stark reminder that Toby would not return. My other dog, Tiger, a maltipoo; finally ran out the door much later that day, grabbed the toy, and brought it to me. He knew, I knew.
Days and nights without Toby have been hard. I've cried, I've laughed at sweet memories, but I can't quite seem to get past missing the Bichon Buzz! All of you owners of this breed know what I'm talking about. As a sign of happiness, Bichons will map out a figure 8 track in your house or yard and they will run and Buzz, Buzz and run for several minutes and then look at their master for approval. This is really bizarre to see, but also brought me so much joy! I will never forget the first time Toby did this, I had him just a day. He was an 8 week old puppy and started the lap and I crumpled in the floor laughing at him! Thanks goodness Bichon Frise's come with a book thar prepares you to raise them. Lol.
As I sit in my sunroom, looking out the window of the angel statue that marks Toby's gravesite. I am so thankful to Bob, who bought him for me, even though "he didn't want a dog, and surely not an expensive one!". I am so grateful to Toby for choosing me as his companion, (he knew how to work that pet store window"! Lastly, greatful to God for giving us animals.
So let me close with this, upon arrival from being out the other night I went straight to the bedroom and heard the familiar ticking of dog feet running a lap. I looked around and Tiger was on the track, I grinned from ear to ear and cried my heart out, Toby taught Tiger the track run, but not the Buzz! Makes perfect sense, only Bichons can Buzz, right Toby??

HERE are My Tigers!
Wow. Just Wow! Death Valley was rocking today my friend. SEC powerhouse Auburn University arrived and started the scoring in a hurry. This team was big and fast. Before I even could look around, Auburn was up 14-0. Then something phenomenal happened. The Tigers clicked and we rolled off 21 points to go into the half tied with the defending National Champion, 21-21. Our offense looked GREAT! Tajh had all day to throw, great protection today, and had some nice runs as well. What can I say about Sammy Watkins? This kid is awesome, so talented and has the determination of a veteran..he's just a freshman. Huge catches and huge YAC.
Clemson received the opening kickoff and drove the ball right down the field to score and take the lead foe the first time 28-21. The Clemson Tigers got stronger as the game went on. We pushed those big boys around the entire second half.
Death Valley was loud and fun. Everyone wasmon their feet, pompoms were shaking, the band was playing, Auburn's defense was wearing down. We finished the game running out the clock on first down after first down. My Tigers win 38-24. We held Auburn to a field goal in the second half.
I can't wait til next week when we take on FSU. The chopping has already begun in The Valley!
Great win, Clemson! I love these days with family and friends.

CC High versus Denmark Olar...9/16/11
What a exciting game. For the first time we actually had football weather. I got chilled and absolutely loved it!
This was a defensive struggle all evening. Denmark finally scored in the quarter on a nice drive. The extra point was no good so they lead going into the half 6-0. The Saints had lots of opportunities to score, but could not quite come up with the big play.
The Saints were able to score in the 4th quarter, tying the game at 6. Terrence Whitmore threw a nice pass over the middle to DJ Whetstone. This was DJ's first td this season and man it was huge. Terrence lined up to kick the extra point and missed it wide left. So in the 4th we are all tied up 6-6.
Denmrk started on another nice drive and we were fortunate to get into the backfield and disrupt a pitch resulting in a fumble. Kembre' caused the fumble, making a great play from his new position at defensive end.
In OT, CC got the ball first, had some nice runs, and then Whitmore connected with Kembre on a dump pass over the middle for the go ahead touchdown. The extra point was good by Whitmore and the Saints are winning 13-6.
On the Denmark Olar possession, we were able to stop them on first and second downs for minimal yardage. However, on 3rd down, the QB went up the middle on a keeper and made it all the way down to the 1 yard line. On 4th and goal the Saints defense stood strong and held on to win in a thriller 13-6.
The Saints travel to Hunter Kinard Tyler next week to take on the Trojans.

Jake's 1st Birthday Party
The planning for Jake's birthday party began a few months ago. Brittany really hit a home run with the theme. Everything was about trees and nature. We served the snacks off tree stumps. Jason did a #1 carving in one stump, really beautiful. Britt made the most gorgeous decorations. It was a very festive party.
I can't believe on the 16th it will be a year since Jake came into our life. He is the most precious little boy. He is so full of life and happy all the time. He has a gentle spirit thanks to all the prayers that covered him from day one. Brittany and Jason are great parents. I don't have to give a second thought about his being taken care of.
When God decided to give me a Grandson, I can truly say life is complete. I look forward to our days together. I never know what new word or action he will come up with. I especially enjoy those wet, sloppy kisses he gives. There's nothing like it!
If you see Jake on Friday, wish him a happy birthday. Oh, and ask him how old he is and that little finger will come up.
Grandparenting is the best. If you are not already one, the best days are ahead of ya!

Where are my Tigers?
As I travel home from Clemson, this is a time I reflect on the game and discuss it with the greatest football mind I know, my husband Bob. We were very lucky to win that game. Wofford runs that Georgia Tech complicated offense. We couldn't stop GT and we could not stop Wofford until....when it counted in the 4th.
Our offensive and defensive lines need alot of work. I noticed the offensive linemen were not even dirty at the end of the game. I don't know if I ever even saw them on the ground at all. Bizarre stuff.
Andre Ellington ran great and gained alot of yards including a break away run for 75 yards. Sammy Watkins and Nuk Hopkins continue to make big catches and our tight end makes great catches.
Tajh Boyd is developing and looked good at times. He doesn't get alot of protection, but when he does he is very accurate throwing the ball.
I am still waiting for my Tigers to get it together. It's got to be soon, Auburn comes to town on Saturday.
Go Tigers, the Clemson ones that is!

CC High versus North 9/9/2011
Can I get a shout out from everyone that we are finally getting some football weather?
The Saints scored very quickly off some blocked punts and turnovers by North. Saints won the game 41-0.
Kembre' had a good game with an interception for a touchdown and 96 yards rushing with a touchdown.
This was a game that alot of Saints players got the opportunity to play for long periods of time.

A Clemson Baseball Story...Looking Back
As the wife of a player, Coach Bill Wilhelm let me travel on road trips with him and his wife, Mrs. Sarah. I was so afraid of Coach, I hardly would utter a word. Those trips were alot of fun when we arrived and I got to hang out with Bob and the guys.
Always first on the agenda was setting up the barber shop in Bullett's room. All the team would come in and we would have a great haircutting time. Joking around mostly and telling stories. When Bullett graduated, the clippers were passed to me to become the team barber. What fun I had, I actually got pretty good at it. Ask Bob, I can still cut his hair today. Lol.
Speaking of hair, there was an early morning game one day and I was a little late getting up and did not have the time to blow dry my hair. We were in Durham, NC at the ACC tournament. When I exited the motel room, there was Coach and Mrs. Sarah waiting on me with all the players' vans lined up behind him. I rushed to get into the car, and Coach looked around at me and asked if my hair was wet. Embarrassed, I said yes. He said, "Dale, we cant have you catch cold, get back in the motel room and dry your hair. I'll hold the team up until you are finished.". OMG, I never lived that down. Poor Bob, stuck on the van with a bunch of jokesters while they wait one ME to dry my hair.
Nevertheless, that was the first and last time I held the team up!
To this day, when we get together with former teammates, the question usually comes up..Dale, did you dry your hair? Ughhhh!

Clemson Tigers- a new era!
Game day at Clemson, heaven on earth. Families laughing, eating, and playing together. Kids dressed up in orange, #23 jerseys everywhere. New uniforms for the Tiger cheerleaders, flashy and beautiful. Ralley Cats, very precise and entertaining. The most exciting 25 seconds in college football with a 2010 recruit stroke Survivor leading the way. A sky of orange, Tiger Rag by the Band that Shakes the Southland! All of this through the eyes of my Godson, his first college football experience. #Priceless
Tigers look a little shaky in the first half to a good Troy team. The thing that worries me is we looked beat in the trenches on both sides of the ball. OUCH! We go into the half losing 16-13. Not good.
Second half things start to turn around, the up tempo starts to take it's toll and the scoring begins. Mike Bellamy looks CJish on a nice run. Andre Ellington ran hard. Sammy Watkins had some great catches. Defensively, our new linebackers looked great. Defensive line has to get better. Great kicking game, very nice punts.
I am really happy we pulled away with a 43-19 win. We needed it with the rest of the September schedule.
It is a grrreat day to be a Tiger!

CC High - too close for comfort
The Saints travelled to Wagener on Friday, September 2nd game time 7:30. It was a rough start for the Saints and we fell behind early off of turnovers and an efficient offense by the Eagles.
The Saints finally got on the board by some tough scrambling by Terrance, our QB and some nice catches by wide receivers.
Kembre' had a nice game on defense with several key tackles. Offensively he ran the ball just a few times with positive yardage. Kick offs were short and the up backs got the opportunities to run the ball.
The game was back and forth and with a few minutes left in the game, Saints were winning 26-25 and the Eagles were driving. On 3rd and 7 with time running out, the Eagles decided to attempt a field goal. The field goal was missed and downed on the 2 yard line. From there all the Saints had to do was take a knee and watch the clock tick down.
Saints win in a close one 26-25. 2-1 record with the North Eagles coming to town next week.

My BFF Phyl...
I am blessed to have a best friend who is a devout Christian. Phyllis is a giver, a very sweet transplanted northerner from Chicaaaago, emphasis on the aaa. Lol.
She called me a few days ago to let me know that CC High's football team did not have a sponsor to feed them their pre game meal on Friday. Someone was scheduled to do so, but backed out for one reason or another. I could hear the wheels churning inside her head as she went through every possible scenario in order to get a sponsor for the meal. I explained to her how much the guys enjoy that time together before the game, eating and fellowshiping together.
Now understand this, Phyllis has no son on this team. She just loves her community and is willing to put in the time and effort to get something done. I am honored to say, she took on the responsibility of the whole meal with her son doing the grilling, and our football team will have that pre-game meal together with delivery! That is my friend Phyl, willing to go the extra mile, behind the scenes, and not expecting even a thank you.
So, when you see Phyllis this week, tell her Dale gave her a shout out on the blog. Oh, and thank her for giving to her community and setting a great example for the rest of us.
GO SAINTS!!

College Football is here, y'all !
This is the day I have been waiting for. College football's official start. I've checked what's on TV tonight, and I have the remote ready to flip back and forth. I don't really care at this point who is playing but THAT they are playing!
Being the wife and mother of former college athletes, I understand the preparation and dedication it takes to get to game time. This is when the student athletes actually get to have some fun and excel in what they have prepared for. The practices come full circle, the 5am weight lifting, the 2 and 3 adays, running the stadium steps, power loading on your meals, ice baths, and weigh ins.
So, when you flip on ESPN tonight and enjoy the competitiveness of college football, take the time to appreciate all the hard work that goes into game time.
"Jake, where did you hide the remote? Find it for Me'me, Jakkkkkke,"

What Wild Dunes Means to Me..not what you think!
As I walk around this beautiful resort located on the Isle of Palms, (that's IOP for all you Northerners - smile)you can see God's lush, green thumb all around. Not only that, but the design of the resort was so well planned' complete with it's own "Rainbow Row" on the beachfront!
But the most meaningful thing to me about Wild Dunes begins about 60 years ;-) ago when my oldest brother Gene was born. Affectionately known to me as Gene Ray, I was always thankful for an older brother who could drive and had a job with "spending money" by the time this much younger sister was born in the 60's. Lol. Gene Ray was a good brother to me and always someone I looked up to. When he graduated from St. Matthews High School, he immediately joined the National Guard. I will never forget the first Sunday supper my Mom cooked while he was away for basic training in Fort Bragg, NC. My sister, Bobbie Ann, my brother Ricky, and I were seated at the dinner table along with our parents. We said grace and each one of us proceeded to pick up our designated piece of fried chicken. I need to stop right here a moment and tell you, my Mom could really fry some chicken! After all the pieces were selected, my Mom jumped up from the table dabbing at her eyes with her apron in hysterics. We all looked at each other and then back to the chicken platter, and there sat the reason for the hysteria. My brother's designated piece just lay there like a red flag! Well, I need to be honest, I did miss him, so supper that night was sad and a reminder Gene was away fighting the enemy! His poor piece of chicken laid there all during supper as a reminder and Mom ,being the emotional one, took to her bed for the evening.
A few years later Gene Ray found and married the sweetest, prettiest blonde I have ever seen. Diane is a wonderful sister-in-law. He also went to work for an oil company as their gas truck delivery man. Worked his way up in that company for years and I remember the night my Dad and he walked and talked, talked and drew in the sand, really mulling over some big decision not meant for my ears. Believe me I tried to hear. I just couldn't get close enough to them. This was big stuff!
Well, I am proud to say that through prayer and sacrifice my brother bought that oil company and has grown Southern Lubricants to be the biggest oil distributor in the southeast. Both his daughters Lisa and Angie, and his son-in-law Freddie work at the company.
So, the story ends here. If you ever want to see the American dream in a physical form, come on down to Wild Dunes Resort, go to ShipWatch and take a look at my brother and his family's place sitting right there on the beachfront!
In conclusion, that is why Wild Dunes means so much to me!

Prayer is a Mystery
I have a confession to make about prayer. Prayer is a mystery! In my family, I am the emotional one. My husband Bob is the logical one. I think prayer even to the logical one in your family can be mysterious. Let's see if I understand this mystery of prayer: First, God knows what I need before I ask, He already knows if and when He desires to meet those needs. But He still desires I come to Him and ask.
Here's the beauty of prayer: prayer isn't always logical, but it is spiritual. When our Lord told us "whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive", He was not telling us He is a heavenly bellhop and whatever our little hearts desire, if we could just muster up enough belief, He's obligated to grant it.
He is reminding us that prayer is three things: Prayer is relational. We pray in the Spirit, to the Father, and through the Lord Jesus Christ. Prayer is also personal. Because He knows my needs in advance, He desires I personally come to Him for the meeting of those needs. Lastly, prayer is circular. Here's the key that unlocks the logic of prayer: the prayer that gets to heaven starts in heaven! It is God who knows. It is God who puts the desire in my heart. And it is God who answers the requests that are in His will.
Whether you are dealing with moving mountains or moving the hearts of men, you can always pray. God is waiting...

To be or not to be, that is the question / Clemson thoughts
I could not end my blogging today without a few comments about Clemson Tiger Football and the upcoming season. I attended a scrimmage a few weeks back with Bob and here are a few notables:
Our defense is good. The Freshman linebackers are all that and hopefully that has alot to do with-
The offense looked lost. We had some good plays by Tajh Boyd, he's definitely improved, but we just looked out of sync.
Mike Bellamy is an exciting running back and Andre' Ellington is completely healthy. No sign of that limp that plagued him for so long.
The kicking game was great. Nice punting and really good field goals.
The wide receivers and tight ends looked good. Nuk really shined!
The season is here Tiger Fans. I think we will be pleasantly surprised and really enjoy the fast paced offense. Be patient, we are a work in progress.
Thursday night begins the NCAA football season. I'll be watching, will you?

Jake has a birthday soon!
Who can believe that my Grandson Jake will be one year old on September 16th? My daughter, Brittany has outdone herself with planning his party. I won't divulge too much information but let's just say, it's going to be an awesome party!
I remember the weeks leading up to his birth and especially the day we found out we were expecting a boy! Priceless stuff. Britt and I had gone to her weekly appointment that day and found out she was beginning to go into labor. She was admitted on the 15th and had a rough few days. Jake was born the following evening and was one of the pinkest beautiful babies I have ever seen. That was a great day. Brittany was a trooper, so strong and patient.. So respectful to the doctors and nurses. I was so proud of her and especially proud to be her Mom.
So, stay tuned for an update about the birthday party, you will love it!

Week One: CC High Football
The Saints travelled to Lake Marion High School in Santee to take on the Gators at 7:30 pm on Friday, August the 26th. Weather conditions were skeptical as Hurricane Irene was threatening the coast of SC and NC.
We arrived at Lake Marion and found good weather conditions, not so very humid, and a really nice breeze blowing into the stadium. Those in attendance with Bob and me were: the Axson family' Lisa, Freddie, Tori, JT, Joyce, and Fred. JT was celebrating his 11th birthday.
The Saints started slowly, looking kind of flat in the first half. Fumble mistakes really cost us in the first half as Lake Marion scored twice resulting in a 14-0 lead. However, the Saints were able to come back driving the ball on the ground and through the air and cut the lead 14-7. We had a new placekicker on the extra point attempt, our Quarterback! #1 really has a strong leg and PAT was successful!
After a motivating halftime speech from our Coach Walt Wilson, CC stormed out of the gates in the second half scoring immediately. ( I hear the halftime speech had something to do with running and lights being turned on at the field , I'll leave it at that). As promised to the Saints at halftime, we lined up to go for two, which was unsuccessful, but hey, I loved it. Come on out and make a statement, get fired up about being here.
The Saints were able to run the ball successfully and the passing game was on too! Good overall second half performance by the guys in red.
Kembre' had a nice game on defense with several tackles. Offensively, he broke a kick off return for about 50 yards and had some nice hard runs pulling tacklers with him. (smile). He did have a clear shot for a sack on the opposing QB, but was whistled for being offsides. Pretty close call. He also got punched in the back of the head on a gang tackle on defense, punched back and got caught. Hey, defending himself, right?
Referees were flag happy, very frustrating for me.. I like zebras that sort of disappear on the field and just do their job. This group had to have a conversation on every call. Ugh !
Saints won 33-12. Next week we travel to Wagener Salley. Can't wait!

From Week Zero into Week One : CC High Football
Calhoun County's week zero game got underway on Saturday, August 20 at 8 pm. 3 A powerhouse Marlboro County arrived in St. Matthews with hundreds of fans. The Saints played well, fighting through severe cramping and injuries to pull ahead on a back and forth game 34-31 with around 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter. That would not be enough as MC went for it on 4th and 7 to score their last touchdown from the 12 yard line. The extra point was good and the score was 38-34. The Saints could not get any farther than midfield and the game ended with MC holding on for the victory.
Some notables on my God Son Dekembre' Brown. He rushed for 103 yards on 3 carries, rumbling for a touchdown on his longest run of 67 yards. He also had an interception return for a touchdown on defense. Kembre' plays both ways, fullback on defense, and middle linebacker on offense. He also runs kick offs back and lines up for kick offs and extra points. I tease him often letting him know he will be punting soon!
The Saints are 0-1, Marlboro County begins their season 1-0. Next week the Saints travel south to Lake Marion High School taking on the Gators.
